CustomAction for Patch Install

Hi,


I am using Installshield MSI script project on Installshield 2009. I want to use CustomAction for Patch installation. I have generated update.exe and able to install properly over base setup.exe.

My concern is if I try to install update.exe without installing base setup.exe, I got the "1628 failed to complete installation" error as soon as click update.exe. Instead of this error msg, I need to populate valid error msg.
In that case the solution may be through either CustomAction or Installshield script.

Can you please let me know the way to fix it?

Iam wondering that this is a basic feature that Installshield should have supported when then say they support patches. How do we get around the problem. Custom Action did not help since this 1628 Error is in the very beggining and we do not yet have control in the Sequence.
