  1. Oracle Java Licensing - 'Public' (freeware) vs. Commercial

Is it still accurate to say that the Public versions of Oracle Java in Flexera are still freeware? e.g. from this KB article: (Unravelling the mysteries of Java (and other products) actual versions for licensing )

I am trying to catch up on Oracle Java guidance and it's giving me a brain aneurysm. Any guidance or support would be greatly appreciated.

      @johnksilverwood

AFAIK the versions relevant for licensing that was called out in this link are still correct. However (and IIRC), Oracle changed the licensing metrics after this article was published, so please make sure to also consult Oracle's official sites for the latest on Java licensing.

      Thanks,

      John Sorensen

  2. Oracle DBs and instances are not getting discovered some Solaris DB servers.

We have the Snow agent deployed on all servers, including our DB servers. According to the inventory from our OracleDB team, we have around 150 Solaris DB servers, but only 4 are reporting to us. Can anyone explain why we are facing this issue, with some servers reporting the Oracle DBs and others not?

    Thanks and Regards,

    Eshan

      Hi

Apologies that you have not heard back from the anyone in the community with regards to your Oracle logical cores question.

I could not immediately see any related information within the Snow documentation therefore the best thing you can do would be to raise a support case using the Support hub and they will be able to put you in touch with an engineer who can assist you with your issue .

      Kind Regards

Hey Marcus - as Detlev mentioned it really does depend on the quality of agent coverage you have & if they are configured to scan not only Oracle but Java. The benefits of the Oracle Enterprise tab is we highlight those as Oracle recently changed licensing that if one instance of Oracle is found in the business that you can be charged for all domain users; as you have a ULA agreement it mightn't be relevant; however - Snow provides a Java Assessment to help customers understand additional risks; for example - if there are particular versions that are EOL or apps using older JDK versions with vulnerabilities. We have an offering (I'm not a Sales person :)) but it might be valuable to engage with you Account Manager to see if it worthwhile going through with them to build an internal "best practice" when it comes to Oracle & Java.

      Hello,

no, as I explained during our call OMO is legacy product and you can't buy it now as a standalone product. I told you how easily you can calculate numbers of device for additional purchase in current license metric for Spend Optimizer to achieve this functionality.

  5. Oracle auto-assign

    Hi community,

Oracle auto-assign is not working properly for all dc. We have to do manual assignment. is there a solution to this?

Another question is, although there are enough licenses and dc is compliant, some hosts remain in the not compliant status.

To fix this, it is necessary to click on the server from the License assignments tab and assign the problematic host one by one.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Previously, it was informed that it would be sufficient to license only the dc, is this information wrong?

How should we assign oracle licenses?

    Thanks.

      Hi, Ilker.

Auto-assignment does use the default Oracle rules for Processor assignments. Depending on the 'calculation' for your hardware, there may be an element which is causing the system to not be able to fully conclude the license requirement for your system to complete the auto-assignment.

The second part of your statement seems to be related to first part of your question. Because auto-assignment isn't working for those systems, you're having to go into them manually to complete the assignments to get them to be "Compliant."

To Jelle's point, please connect with your account manager to connect with us. It would be interesting to understand what set of variations of hardware you're working with which causes the auto-assignment and manual adjustment to need attention.

      Regards,

      Andy

      Hi Daniel

Apologies you have had no response from the team or the community.

The best solution would be to raise a ticket in our Snow Support Portal https://community.flexera.com/s/support-hub where the Support team / Professional services team might be able to advise if this is possible and if so, assist you in setting it up.

      Kind Regards
