  • I'd check with Snow Support first.

A while ago, I had a customer that had installed the applications on drive D:

Snow Support at one point told us, that this causes trouble, especially in regards to Snow Updates.

I am pretty sure, this is not the case any longer, as Snow in the meantime describes installations onto other drives as well.

But better check before running into trouble.

I have not seen a documentation for an action like this.

Thinking of all the interactions between the modules and increasing number of services, I'd rather go for a fresh installation.

    • I agree on doing a fresh install (although keeping the database intact).

It's funny that the support says that D: is risky, as Snow Professional Services "always" installs on D: ... I have not heard or noticed anything about D: being a bad install location on any of my installations.

    • I think years ago the SUS ended up during the installation putting itself on the C: drive even if you told the rest of the application to install on another drive.

You'd end up then with the SUS logs etc. in one place and it always had issue then finding the other installation files.

Thankfully that "quirk" was "mostly" solved :-)

  • I totally agree.

It is recommended in the meantime and if it was not a good idea, the option to change the installation path should have never been in the installation wizard.

I have to admit that this happened only in one customer environment (that was originally installed by Snow Professional Service, indeed).

  • Inventory Server and SLM only occupied 20GB max. if you're over that size time for cleaning up logs and offline updates etc...

Unless SQL databases also on the same drive. If so better off moving databases to another drive - SQL backup and restore.

    • You make a good point about log sizes etc.

If you have Caching services enabled the MongoDB's can just keep growing when not even being used. So disabling of those windows services can really help disk space.
