Deleting of Custom Information in Licences

Hi all,

we have currently the problem that Custom Information in Licences will be deleted somehow from the system without a user Interaction on the SLM.

Did someone have the Issue also?

That happens on our end with Update to SLM 9.14 but still happens after update to with SLM 9.15.

We have already a Snow Support Case for this but currently no solution so far.

Cheers,

Daniel

  • Are you talking about Custom Compare Values (CCV)? Those are stored in the application, not the license.

I have not been reported any issue like this one recently. It would be interesting to determine if the CCVs have really disappeared or if they point to non-existing applications after some kind of update to the ApplicationIDs. Support will tell.

  • Hey Samuel,

sorry that is a bit unclear from my end I mean the Custom Information inside the Licence.

I have updated the Title and the original post accordingly.

    Regards,

  • Hi @Daniel Rehnitz,

Do you mean the "Notes" field against Licenses (on the Information tab)? If so, I'm wondering if it's related to this problem. If that's the case ... and you are on SLM 9.15 then try editing the license and saving it back with no changes and see if that fixes it.

  • Worth noting that when we're importing licenses with custom field information, it's disappearing instantly on 9.13.

  • Hey @everybody,

we have found the root cause of the issue.

The Problem is the Table [SnowLicenseManager].[dbo].[tblCustomFieldValue]

Here the entries will get be unique of a combination of CustomFieldID and ElementID.

When we delete a Computer for Example ComputerID 200 the job who clears out the Table tblCustomFieldValue ignores that ElementID alone is not unique to identify the correct elements to delete.

The effect is then if you have an agreement or a licence with the same ID as the Computer and with Custom Values assigned this custom values will be deleted as well and will be lost.

i have created on our end an SQL Query to check if a computer have elements in the tblCustomFieldValue so what we can expect to be deleted if we delete a computer.

select DISTINCT comp.computerid, comp.HostName from [SnowLicenseManager].[dbo].[tblComputer] as comp

     join [SnowLicenseManager].[dbo].[tblCustomFieldValue] cfv on cfv.ElementID = comp.ComputerID

     join [SnowLicenseManager].[dbo].[tblCustomField] as CF on cf.CustomFieldID = cfv.CustomFieldID

     where cf.CategoryID <> 2

     and IsNumeric(cfv.ElementID) = 1

This query shows all computer on our end which have Entries in the tblCustomFieldValue what is not related to the computer itself. That is achieved with the where clause cf.CategoryID <> 2 (i do not know if that is correct for all environments).

I have done not further investigation if these behaviour also applied if you also delete for example a licence or a agreement.

The behaviour is confirmed by the Snow Support for further investigation it is a generell issue. It looks like that this is not an new issue in the software.

    Regards,

    Daniel
