prince asked a question.
How SNOW consuming its licenses?
Hey Team,
We have 11,500 Snow licenses in our environment and I can see that the License limit reached alert in SNOW SLM.And When i check How many devices are reporting to Snow SLM, It is only 10.5k devices.
Can Someone tell me what is the exact issue here or please tell me what am i missing here?
Kindly help me on getting my doubt cleared.
Thanks and Regards,
Prince Shaji
Hi, The 11,500 you are seeing in SLM (via the About screen), is the number of machines currently reporting into Snow Inventory, coupled with the number of licenses you have in SLM. The 10,581 number is the number of computers currently in SLM.
You should be able to confirm the Snow Inventory count by checking Snow Inventory Server Admin console and listing All Computers...
...this also assumes that you have the same number of licenses to process this inventory. Once it reaches the limit, it will no longer process new incoming inventory. You should be able to check this by looking at the logs, found here...
C:\ProgramData\SnowSoftware\Inventory\Server
In order to resume processing, you would need to increase your license count for Snow Inventory.
Hi Colin,
Thanks for your response!
It was really helpful, I will check and confirm the same for further proceeding.

Hi,
the metric for SLM is "inventoried computers in the current inventory source".
This includes also devices that sent a "heartbeat" but no inventory data. You will find these devices in the Snow Inventory Admin Console, usually "greyed out".
If you find a lot of devices with a pretty old heartbeat and no last scan, you might want to delete these devices to release some sSnow licenses.
Please be aware, that no snowpack files for new computers will be processed by the Snow Inventory Server as long as the licenses are all used.
You will find the rejected snowpacks in the error folder of the incoming directory.
Kind regards,
Axel
Thank you, Alex.
