EE asked a question.

New Applications Detected by Snow

Is there a report that I can run to show what new applications Snow has detected.  I know there is a 1st discovered report showing what applications are new to a computer. But I'm after what applications have been newly discovered by Snow within our fleet. My managers would like to see what new applications have been discovered say over the past month, and with historical data I could then build a table of new discoveries and applications that have dropped off.

Alternatively I could just take a report of all applications in Snow each day/week and tally this per month, but thought Snow might have a more direct solution. Thanks

  • Thanks ‌ for the suggestion. I looked at that but those report focus more on installs to computers, so the application could be an old application that is newly installed on a PC, but I want to know like ‌ mentions, a change report to show all new applications discovered by Snow within a set period. I have managed to use the Application Compliance History report, filtered this to one day a month, and used the 'blanks' on the pivot to identify the months Snow was able to detect the application or not. But this still needs manual intervention by me to now review the pivot and hight those applications that are appearing this month but not last and are therefore newly discovered by Snow. The reason for this report is that it would help to explain why the Alert -   " According to the compliance calculation  30/07/2019 [19:00]   there are  480   underlicensed applications " changes so much month to month . My explanation to management has been that Snow's SRS has now detected more titles than last month due to SRS updates. But this does not completely explain the changes. If I could show, over the past week/month Snow has deteceted the follow application - new to our fleet, it would be much better.

  • Hi EE, This could be an idea to add the the Ideas Board ... I tried to see if I could find a similar idea already posted but because the search feature is not working (and has been failing for way too long now !!!! - Please Snow, fix this ) I could not find anything yet.   Feel free to post as a new idea.
  • I have not been able to find a Snow report that would give me this information.  I've had to schedule a report ( All applications - Weekly Comparison Data : Shows all licensed, installed or used applications.) , sent to myself weekly, that shows all applications.  I then will do a comparison from the previous weeks report (exported to Excel) and simply filtered for duplicates in each column.  Any that aren't duplicates are either no longer found in the system or new installs.  It's a manual process, but it provides a weekly snapshot to my management and IT Security to watch for installs that shouldn't be taking place without our knowledge.

    • You could just take a report each month and see the difference. Do a vlookup on last months data and if it wasn't there it's a new application. You could also really quick see the difference if any and track transition from lower to higher versions. Would love this as a standard report in SLM, but for now I just create my own (scheduled report with software and number of installations) and do it manually. But it does add great value.

  • Hi, You have a "standard report" with history of installations. Just filter it by "added" to know which were just installed and the time range you are interested in. It should work.
  • I'd like to see something some thing more around "Change Reporting". Hardware or Software adds deletes for a specific period. For example, someone adds an application I'd like to know. Could be scheduled report daily or weekly for the team to review to look for new installs so we can chase down rouge installs.
