Search for Objects in SLM 8

Hi all, We have a customer that has a large number of objects in Snow. We have recently upgraded their platform from SLM 7 to SLM 8. They previously searched for specific object types via 'search for objects' in SLM 7 which listed all objects of a specific type. In SLM 8 the search for objects does not list all records and the following message is displayed if the search is too broad ( this was not the case in SLM 7): Search returned too many records, please narrow your search. Is anyone able to advise what the limit of records that can be displayed in this search? And is there a way to increase this limit so that all available records are listed? Many thanks Sunny Singh

Hi Sunny, I cant give you an exact number because I have never managed to work it out. It does feel like it is not the same across all objects, for example if I search for computers it will pull back a large list (25,000 in my testing) without any issues, if i search for applications and expect it to return the same number of rows as my computer search, i get the message you are seeing. I am also not aware of any way to change it, I know there is a setting you can change to increase the row count exported to excel, but I am not aware of a setting to control the results of the search. Our workaround was to create a report and use that instead, the reports dont appear to suffer from the same limitations as the search functionality.

Hi Sunny, As discussed today, the change for this restriction has been scheduled for release in Snow License Manager 8.1.2. As always, the inclusion of the functionality in the described release is always subject to possible change but currently we are looking at removing this restriction in 8.1.2. Thanks, Antony Parker

  Are there any plans to make the search easier like adding a search filed on the Snowboard that would do an extensive search by name at least ? Now the search for objects is a pain...
