ColinHardie asked a question.
Missing lots of applications in SLM?
Checked SLM this morning and noticed that I had no applications listed for my computer...Checking tblJobLogMetrics I can see a big drop in some of the counts...
No errors in the DUJ have been reported, nor can I see anything untoward in the log files. Has anyone encountered this behaviour before?
Thanks
Colin
Hi Colin,
What version do you have?
I also had a problem like that. Many computers without any application and I was in contact with Snow some time.
To solve this I first got a fix. But I think, it was SLM version 9.12.1 that fixed this issue.
With that query I searched for computers without any apps.
use SnowLicenseManager
select c.hostname, c.ComputerID, c.LastScanDate from tblcomputer c
left outer join tblcomputerapplications ca on c.ComputerID=ca.ComputerID
Where ca.applicationid is null
order by HostName
And I forgot, DUJ did not report an error, like you also mention, but was significantly quicker.
Thanks for the response. Currently running v9.10 (and have been for a number of months) and this is the first time I have seen this happen.
Ran the script you supplied and as expected it returned a lot of machines (47K of circa 70K machine estate).
What was the fix you received? A script?
I got an update for Stored procedure JobInventoryComputerSoftwareUpdate in March directly from developers. That was not a support ticket.
I also noticed, that DUJ sometimes repaired this problem itself after some days.
That problem of softwarerecognition appeared for a longer period, first I only had problems with operating system recognition: https://community.flexera.com/s/question/0D56900009E0mqQCAR/do-you-notice-wrong-computer-operating-systems-shown-in-snow-license-manager
Later some computers did not have any app.
Thanks for this Carolai. I'm interested to find out the root cause of this. Did Snow give any indication of why this occurred? I will obviously plan in a platform upgrade if I get confirmation that there is a fix in a newer version (don't see any specific mention of anything in v9.12.1's release notes).
I am hoping tonight's DUJ run resolves things but if not I will raise a ticket. You said you didn't get support ticket? Was there any reference number given?
Thanks
No I do not have any reference number for that. Support was not involved.
But I checked my emails and I got the confirmation on 24. March that they added the changed procedure to 9.12.1
During the last months I sometimes run that sql, I sent you, and did not find further computers without any applications.
For me the DUJ duration also was a hint to notice, when something went wrong. Normally DUJ takes around 1:30 hours in our environment. DUJ took only around 40-50 minutes when that problem appeared.
Perhaps support can update that procedure JobInventoryComputerSoftwareUpdate, in case you can't do a SLM update soon.
Thanks Carolai,
As if by magic the counts are back to normal....
Will look to schedule a SLM upgrade in at some point to take this fix (although still curious to know why no reference in the release notes is made to this issue and its correction)
Great to hear, that you are good again.
In case you update your environment, then perhaps consider 9.14. This fixed an issue in some former versions, where filtering on Custom fields was not possible. That was really uncomfortable.
Hi Colin,
when you run the report applications per computer... can you see any Applications?
Hi Detlev,
That report shows nothing (well for my computer, or indeed any affected computer). I can confirm that the table tblComputerApplications record count is down from ~50 million records to ~15 million (as per the screenshot I posted in my original post).
