Virtual Machines without a host

Hi,

I have a situation were a number of virtual machines show up without showing a host machine.

This have an impact on compliance so I need to understand why.

OS is primarily Red Hat.

SLM 8.x and agents 5.x and 6.x

Hi Peder, In a VMware environment you need to gather information from 2 unique areas. Inventory information gathered from the local agents on the guest VMs. Host/Guest relationships and other cluster information which is provided by the VMware connector in Snow Integration Manager (SIM) application. (I'm a little confused with some of the answers given above. In one answer you say you don't have SIM and in another answer you say that all the Vmware connectors are setup, that woudl inply that you do have a SIM) Processes on the Snow inventory server combine this information from 2 sources. If either of these components is not working then you will only see once half of the picture. The version of Snow Integration Manager is very critical to this discussion. There have been various updates to SIM over the past 18 months to address issues like you are describing. If you are running VMware connectors the recommended version is 5.13, there are known issues with all other (earlier and later) versions. Can you confirm the version of Snow Integration Manager - if you have it. Tom

  Hi Tom, Sorry about the confusion. We have SIM but its not setup for Redhat virtualiuzation. I haven’t checked the version of the SIM but I will do that during the day. I don’t have all the access to the servers yet so that’s why I don’t have all information.   Hi Tom, Been away on a conference so havent had access. SIM version is 5.11. Bur I think I will raise a Snow ticket on this.

    Hi ‌, We have had issues in the past with the guest/host relationship missing in some cases (with Snow Integration Manager). As far as i know the upcoming release of SIM 5.17 fixes some issues as well, but i think it's a good idea to raise a ticket for this. Best Regards Geoffrey Macquet Customer Success Manager EMEA

    Hi Geoffrey, Ticket is raised now. If the solution is updating the SIM that is quite easy to do. Only need authorization from customer of course. Hi Peder, This sounds to me like the correct Redhat SIM connector has not been set up. Do you have any Redhat Hosts/VMs linking correctly? If not, then it is likely to be that. We do not recommend setting up the connectors yourself, Id suggest you liaise with your Snow Account Manager to book some time in with one of the Technical specialists, to set this up for you. If, however, this is a case of some Redhat servers are pulling through, and others are not, then I would recommend that you raise a call with internal support to trouble shoot this. Many thanks Kelly

  Hi, We do not have a Redhat connector set up. Some of the Host-guest connections we can see and some we don’t. BR

    We dont have a SIM installed for this. The problem is that you can see the virtual machine from the host but not the other way around. It has nothing to do with agent version that we can see. Also why does it show on some machines and not others? Same agent version same OS.

    I cannot really answer in detail, as I would need to see this to fully understand, however, all I can really advise is that without the connector set up, you cannot expect the host-VM link to work. It may be that some of the VM data is pulling through from the hosts, which is why some show this. However, without the connector set up, then this information may not be up to date, and I doubt you will be able to report on this. If you want to pull this data through then I would suggest getting the appropriate connector set up. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I think this is the only was to get the full information that you need.
