Not in SMACC SLM doc : administer web application inventory configuration
The SLM SMACC 8.3 and 9.1 user guides do not mention this setting : administer web application inventory configuration The 'web application' is on the 'Administration' page of the SLM Web UI and only accessible for SLM users with 'administrator' role. Is this a separate setting to add to roles for 'normal' users to access the 'SLM Web UI tenant page, administration, web applications' setting? If so this is a trigger to Snow to verify the documentation if all settings available in the SLM SMACC are described in the documentation. The description in the SMACC is not always that descriptive and may require related SI or SLM configuration settings that are definitely not mentioned in the SMACC but the documentation can have pointers to the related docs. To answer part of your question. The 'web application' is on the 'Administration' page of the SLM Web UI and only accessible for SLM users with 'administrator' role. I believe you are referencing Web Applications which is a method to collect usage of cloud/web web based applications. This is addressed in section 4.3.14 - Administrative tasks - Administration overview - Web Applications of  KB0011767 - User Guide: SLM Web User Interface - Update revision 8.3 . This is addressed in section 4.3.15 - Administrative tasks - Administration overview - Web Applications of  KB0019253 - User Guide: Web User Interface Snow License Manager version 9 (en-us) .     Will get back with further information on the SMACC settings if nobody else beats me to it.

‌ and I just had a look at the setting you are referencing in the SMACC: "Administer web application inventory configuration". Just to clarify for others, this is a setting which can be set against a role under Security. We can confirm that checking that box will control the access of any user with that role to the Web Applications configuration in SLM. The Web Applications in SLM is described in the guides linked as part of my comment above. ‌ is already in communications on reviewing the SMACC user guides to decide if it is relevant to add a more detailed description around this setting. But we can confirm, at least here, that that is the purpose of the setting.

      • Tom, I guessed it would be, so thx to confirm. Thx to Ester and Mark too. The confusion was not only with me it seems. So together we can optimize the docs.
  • Yes, this seems to be the latest debate and discussion topic lately. It does get confusing, especially with the naming used for certain features or functions with in SNOW.  First Web Applications, Should be called "Web Access Monitoring" or "Web Site Usage" tracking. Is a web site really considered an Application?  Second is the new Cloud App Metering. Again, is a cloud site an application? It is SaaS, a Service, right? Maybe "Cloud Service Metering" makes more sense. Also, could be a regional thing. Do we call the same things in the US as things are called in Europe? Probably not.   Some of the confusion, which is why I asked the question as to whether the Web App Metering was replacing Web Application meeting, is the way SNOW has them setup to configure, enable or do anything with. One is in the SLM console under Administration, the other is on the SNOW Inventory Server SMACC. Then there is a cloud/web/browser piece that needs to be added to the SNOW Agent.  Anyway, I am rambling now. But felt I needed to post what I am thinking. Maybe SNOW needs a user community steering committee where they run these new feature sets by us so we can give them our thoughts on naming implementation and consistency. After all, we have to use it, understand it and explain it.  As noted in previous posts it appears not all SNOW users and administrators have access to all the SMACC's/ Server RDP and consoles that is needed to do our jobs. So maybe our feedback will help.  Thanks for listening.

Hi Mark, thanks for your feedback. I've taken note of the idea mentioned: " But felt I needed to post what I am thinking. Maybe SNOW needs a user community steering committee where they run these new feature sets by us so we can give them our thoughts on naming implementation and consistency. After all, we have to use it, understand it and explain it. " and shared with my CSM colleagues. We're always searching for improvements, even for the community, and this may be a nice input. • Ester,  thank you.  Here is another example of what could be a wording confusion point. If you view the report from the "Cloud Application Summary", there is a column titled "No License Required" (with Yes or No). That is confusing because other reports, like Applications per Computer, have a column titled "License Required" (with Yes or No). This is another inconsistency that could cause confusion for us used to reviewing reports.  No License Required = Yes is like saying Yes we have No bananas. Just Saying.
