Azure in SLM

Hi!

I have been looking around for information about what is monitored in SLM after configurating Azure Connector but have not found any useful inputs except that the report Cloud servers not inventoried should monitor Azure servers without Snow agent.

I would appreciate your inputs as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Maria Lindhagen

  • Hi Maria,  the Azure connector is getting basic discovery data for the Azure computers.  More specifically the connector will gather hostname, IP and MAC address for each Azure computer.  The data will show up in SMACC for inventory in the Discovery overview, in the filter "AD and SIM computers",  and in SLM in the report you mention: "Cloud servers that are not inventoried" It can be used to get a better picture of what computers you need to install an inventory agent on.  More details on the fields collected and how to configure it can be found in the user guide:  https://snowprod.service-now.com/sys_attachment.do?sys_id=4b6c0012db220b40f9a6e1994b9619de&view=true Best regards Martin

    • Thanks Martin for your quick reply. The customer had it configured yesterday, how long will it take before anything is visible in the report? Does the Azure connector send information everyday or just weekly (like for Office365)? Regards, Maria
      • One more comment, Under Cloud Reports there are several ones, I guess that you will be able to see Azure Servers listed there too? All Cloud Servers Applications per Cloud server Cloud servers that are not inventoried Licens tracking per Cloud Server Regards, Maria
        • Hmm, not sure about this, but I think that the other reports will only show data when you have an agent installed on the Azure computers.  There will be no good data to show in the reports, except for "Cloud Server that are not inventoried".
            • Yes they will.  Once they have an agent they are treated just like any other computer,   will show up in list all computers and standard reports.
      • Hi Maria,  The information should be available in SMACC for Inventory  as soon as the connector has aggregated, either by manual aggregation or by the aggregation schedule set up for this connector in SIM.  So the frequency of aggregation is entirely up to the customer and how they configured it.    (Give or take 30 minutes depending on the current file processing queue in the incoming folder.)  in License Manager how ever you will need to wait until the Data Update Job has run, as the data is not transferred from Inventory to License Manager until then.  So if the customer made sure to aggregate the connector for Azure yesterday, you should see the data in SLM today.

  • Just a thought Maria..  A pretty common issue when discovery data isn't  coming through to Inventory or License Manager is that you have set up the SIM to deliver these files to the incorrect folder.  Normal inventory data should be sent to  this location:  C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Inventory\Server\ Incoming \data\processing Discovery data on the other hand needs to be sent to this location:  C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Inventory\Server\Incoming\ announcements \processing SIM has two separate fields for this, and it is not uncommon that the Announcement folder is set incorrectly:  There was also an issue with sim  prior to  5.13  where the discovery files were sent to the wrong folder if you used the "Save to remote inventory server" feature.  So maybe the customer is using an older SIm?
