Licensing Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Client

Hello,

we have Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009, licensed based on management users. Is it named users or concurrent users?

How to configure SLM to control the licenses for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Client?

It's quite hard to find information for a so old release.

Thanks

Yves

Hi Yves, I hope I can help you. I have some experience with NAV licensing. Do you mean with “licensed based on management users” --> Business Ready License (BRL) Advanced Management licenses? BRL licenses uses a concurrent user licening model. Its very difficult to measure this access. I also think using a custom compare value is a viable solution. I will talk with tomorrow and we will provide you a small guide next week. Best regards, Ines

Hi Yves, I'm not the Microsoft expert, therefore I involve ?. ERP metrics in general are quite complex. Usually a user is individual and cannot be shared among other individual/named users. Another question would be, what is a "management user" entitled for? If we cannot measure the usage, we might probably end up with using a custom compare value. Can you provide more details on your entitlement/contract/metric definitions? Regarding your client software question, I found following text in an old Microsoft papers: "You may install an unlimited number of copies of the client software. However, you may use the client software only with the server software." But maybe  can confirm that better. Best regards, Alex

Hi Yves,   As promised here are the guide and some more information:   Dynamics NAV has a technical limitation. That means that no more users(sessions) can log in than there are licenses. The following guide describes a static process to handle the NAV compliance. It requires manual work to keep the data and compliance up to date. Best regards, Ines Step 1: Create Custom compare value Go to the Administration Tab, then select Custom compare value types. Create a new Custom compare value (CCV). Step 2: Search application Go to Applications and search for applications. Select and double-click your application. Step 3: Edit application Click Edit application. Go to License settings and change the metric to Custom compare values. Select the Custom compare value type, which you had created in step 2. Save your settings. Now a new tab Compare values appears. Select an organization entity and click add . Enter the Quantity, the quantity states the usage of the product. Save the application. Step 4: Add License Go to Licenses --> Add license. Search your application. Add the quantity. The metric is automatically set to your Custom compare value type “NAV Client” Step 5: Recalculate compliance Go to System Administrator and click Recalculate compliance Search again for the application. The compliance is calculated correctly.
