Help needed with cluster presentation in SLM

Hi all,

We have a VMware Datacenter with 13 Hosts separated into 3 Clusters (9+2+2). VMware Connector is configured. But in SLM I can only see the whole Datacenter with all its Hosts instead of the separate Clusters. This is bad, because the 3 Clusters needs to be licensed differently. I tried to simply separate the Datacenter manually in SLM (delete hosts from DC, add new DC and add hosts). That looked fine at first sight. But on the next day I had again 1 DC with 13 hosts plus addiitional 2 DCs with each 2 Hosts.

I dont have this Problem in another similar clustered VMware DC which is adminstratetd by a different team. I don't really have a clue about administrating VMware DCs and Clusters. Does anyone have an idea what could be the cause of our problem?

Best regards,

Uwe

Hi Uwe, for troubleshooting, it would be great to get raw data from both datacenters. You can perform the following steps to get raw data: Open  C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Inventory\Server\snowserverconfig.exe and stop the Snow Inventory Server for a short while. Open  C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Inventory\Server\Incoming\data\processing . Leave it open. Open  C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Integration Manager\SnowSoftware.ExternalDataProvider.Properties.exe . Navigate to the connector of your datacenters and aggregate both connectors. This will create .inv files in the processing directory, that you have opened in step 2. Copy the two .inv files and save them to another location. Switch the Snow Inventory Server back on (reverse step 1). With the two .inv files, please reach out to your local support. They can decrypt both files and compare the content. Then we can tell, how these datacenters differ from one another. You can - if you like - also send the files to me. I will decrypt them and send you the data back. /marcel

    • Hi Marcel, thank you very much for your detailed reply and offer! I stuck in step 3 ("aggregate") in generating raw data. Maybe I have to update our SIM first. I just noticed last week that we are still on SIM 5.3.1. I always thought it will also be updated by SUS. Uwe

Hi Uwe, where exactly are you stuck? You can find the latest version of Snow Integration Manager   here . Please update to the latest version and try again. /marcel
        • where exactly are you stuck? How can I "aggregate"?
  • Hi Your "error" is in the SIM. You have checked the option "Use this name as default name for data center" which removes the cluster name with the name defined in the connector. Uncheck it, delete all created datacenters in SLM related to this connector / vcenter, make sure the connector is run after the change, either manually or scheduled, before the next data update job is run which will rebuild the datacenter with the actual cluster name and configuration.

Hi Uwe, additionally I would like to check, what settings are set in SMACC. Could you please check the following values in SMACC -> Snow License Manager -> Basic Settings? These settings tell, if datacenters will be created and which minimum number of hosts are required to generate a datacenter. Default values are as in the screenshot and should be set to cover your needs. /marcel
