Latest Snow Agent 5.#.#

We recently installed the latest Snow agent  (version 5)  and after a few days the numbers reporting back in SLM appeared to be inconsistent. Upon further investigation it turns out that our Desktop support team had not switched of the deployments of the older version.  So we had to agents trying to battle it out to take control and report back to the collection server.

My question is, is this normal for the latest application upgrade to allow an older version to be reinstalled and is this something that Snow will change in time?

Hi Peter, our Snow Inventory Agents gives the ability to behave with an "Uninstall older versions" in the installation process. This has to be set up by Snow Support in the agent creation process. This would solve the problem of a second (newer) agent instance being installed, but not the older agent being installed by your deployment later on. A solution could be, that you request an agent with this "Uninstall older versions" behavior and redeploy it to all machines. Otherwise you could uninstall the older agent via your deployment tool. As long as you don't experience strange behavior, you should be fine with two versions. Nevertheless, this is no wanted state and you should fix this. Please let me know, if I can do something for you. /marcel

    • I will discuss with my Service Provider, but to me it feels that maybe they should have ensured the agent was created to include the "uninstall older versions". Many thanks for the reply.
