Inventory of Applications and Sofwares

What concept used in scanner for picking the applications and software from the systems?

Is scanner have the capability to scanning such applications (like JAR based) which using frequently by users but not installed in system and Will same reported in Inventory Server?

If those type of application reported in Inventory Server, Is those process into SLM?

  • Kishan, Software scanning is performed by the inventory tool and normally only looks for executables. You can configure it to look for 'jar' files by changing the config/ini file on client machines. However this only identity's them within inventory. You need to add rules within the SRS to enable them to appear in License Manager. You can also raise a ticket with the SRS team to add any specific software to the database as the rules engine can be quite daunting. Warwick

    • Hi Warwick, Thanks for your valuable response. Can you please share exactly what need to put inside the config file by which JAR based application picked up during scanning. Thanks!!
      • Kishan, Update one of the files below depending on your Agent Version and then wait for the next scheduled scan (or perform a manual scan) and wait for it to report into the inventory server and then examine the Software Section for your installs. Inventory 3.x C:\Program Files\INVENTORYCLIENT\client.ini Add JAR to the setting ScanInclFileExtList ScanInclFileExtList=EXE,WFD,WFI,WTD,WTI,SYS2,JAR Inventory 5.x (Software Section) C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Inventory\Agent\snowagent.config Add additional FileType to the IncludeCriteria     <IncludeCriteria>       <FileType>jar</FileType>     </IncludeCriteria> Warwick
