MSI Log files filled with extra space characters.

For some strange reason, some of our users have an extra whitespace character between each real character in their MSI log files. For example:

= = = L o g g i n g s t a r t e d : 9 / 1 1 / 2 0 0 8 1 6 : 1 2 : 3 0 = = =

A c t i o n s t a r t 1 6 : 1 2 : 3 0 : I N S T A L L .

A c t i o n s t a r t 1 6 : 1 2 : 3 0 : V e r i f y A d m i n .

Any insight on what causes this problem? I'm stumped.

I think MSI log files are Unicode text files, so a text viewer expecting an ANSI file might display the contents that way... For example, using the Command Prompt command type everything.log shows the spaces.
