    ServiceNow Integration and Software Model Product Types

    We are currently importing data from Flexera on-prem Data Platform into the ServiceNow CMBD and can see the Software Installations, Discovery Models, and Software Models that are created. For the items that get normalized we see the Product Type getting populated on the Discovery Model, however when we look at the associated Software Model that is also created from Flexera it doesn't have the Product Type populated, which is critical when working with entitlements and reconciliations. Is the normal behavior, or is there a setting I am missing somewhere. Thanks!

    When working in Report Management the system is extremely slow loading a report, spins while loading, taking more than 5 minutes.

    The reports contain EOSL dates with 6-month forecast. I have run from desktop and from server. If I make a name change, indexing takes over 2-3 minutes for me to be able to view report. Any ideas why or anything I can do to resolve?

      From the context of your explanation I'm guessing that you're referring to Data Platform Report Management. It sounds to me like you may experience some database performance issues, have you tried to apply some database performance monitoring while running these reports as it may reveal some RDBMS constrains?

    Possible issue with Data Platform version 5.5.82. SSL handshake issue after updating to version 5.5.82

    When trying to download latest catalog updates after running the new 5.5.82 update we are getting SSL handshake issues. There are no issues with normalization data pulls.

    "The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure." I get the preceding error that will NOT go away.

    I have the data platform on site connected to ServiceNow. I have generated the OAuth Token and it will not authenticate preventing us from normalizing data.

    *There is no firewall issue

    -- we added the ServiceNow certificate to the trusted root store on the Admin Console 

    -- We updated the cert on the server

    The Support team has run out of suggestions - This ticket has been open for 3 weeks or more.

      This symptom can indicate multiple causes, but immediate things to check is whether the SQL Server was available during the update execution, and then also whether the User Console is properly configured and connected from the Preferences menu.

       

      If you need further assistance in troubleshooting I would recommend requesting assistance through Flexera Support.

    Can someone from your team provide an example of Open source software captured in the nexB DejaCode catalog and the detailed steps how to verify the software in the above link.

    Data Platform intermittent error 'The system failed to connect to the User Console service. ' 'The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.'

     

    For me, this has occurred on multiple deployments of Data Platform across customers.

    Whether running a Normalization or a Catalog update, sometimes the process will fail, with the Activity Monitor and the BDNA.log showing 'The system failed to connect to the User Console service. Please check the environment and retry.'

    On the User Console UX.log the error will be 'The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.'

    This issue appears to be linked to Java caching DNS lookups. On service startup the User Console will do a look up for the Active Directory server, and that IP address will be the one it will use for any authentication queries until the service is restarted.

    The obvious problem here is that Active Directory domain controllers go up and down; AD is supposed to be fault tolerant and allow for this, and applications need to cater for this inevitable scenario. If the User Console service cannot access that cached IP address then it will fail the process. Addtionally, any user access to the User Console will also fail.

     

    A solution here is to set the time to live for the DNS entries the User Console uses to something short.

     

    On the User Console, edit the file

     

    <install drive>\Program Files\BDNA\User Console\Tools\Java\lib\security\java.security

    and set

    networkaddress.cache.ttl

    to something low. I've set it to 15 seconds.

    networkaddress.cache.ttl=15

    So every 15 seconds it expires whatever is in the DNS cache.

    Stale Inventory

    Was curious how everyone handles stale inventory within Data Platform?  For example in FlexNet Manager when you pull in inventory from most sources you get a last inventory date, so you can easily see how long it's been since a system was last inventoried.  This isn't available within Data Platform, so was curious if anyone is passing this data through or any other ways to handle it?  Thanks!

    Data Platform requires service account to be a member of one Active Directory group

    The Data Platform service account, used in the Authentication Settings page in the 'Populator'->'Admin account' property, must be a member of at least one Active Directory group other than 'Domain Users'.

    If the service account is only a member of 'Domain Users', then the test results will show the error 'Admin account not found. Check your populator settings or admin account and try again.'

     

    According to Flexera Support, this is a limitation of the Pentaho component on the User Console server.

    Data exchange between Data Platform and ServiceNow

    Following on from comments on the post "New ServiceNow Scoped App v5.0.6 is now Available in ServiceNow Store ", I'm interested to understand the sequence of events in the data exchange between Data Platform and ServiceNow (more-so than the technical specs of the API's). I'm a ServiceNow developer tasked with implementing this integration for a client. 

    I find it unusual that the documentation is lacking in detail. Other than the tables involved and simply entering credentials. I've had to work backwards to find out how we're receiving data into the ServiceNow platform. 

    Below is my guess on how the data is exchanged from FDP to ServiceNow? I'm not as concerned with FNMS and Inventory CI data but more rather than normalized hardware and software model and information.

    Step 1 Scheduled Job runs in Flexera (Data platform?/FNMS?)at (x) Interval2 Queries SN Instance via "/api/x_fls_flexera_fnms/v1/integration/can_export" until true result is returned3 Triggers REST call to "/api/x_fls_flexera_fnms/v1/integration/export"4 This triggers scheduled jobs (x,y,z) in ServiceNow to export .CSV files to MID server noted in Export Sets5 Flexera Polls Export Status on SN instance ("/api/x_fls_flexera_fnms/v1/integration/export_status") until export job complete6 FDP normalizes data from CSV Export in MID server7 FDP Queries 'Can Import' ('/api/x_fls_flexera_fnms/v1/integration/can_import') until true8 Data transfered from FTP in batches via Import ('/api/x_fls_flexera_fnms/v1/integration/import')9 FDP Polls Import Progress Status ("/api/x_fls_flexera_fnms/v1/integration/import_progress_status") until complete10Once import complete status returned import complete message sent to trigger data import/transform in ServiceNow ('/api/x_fls_flexera_fnms/v1/integration/import_data_complete')

     

    Is this following  a similar path to the  high level process for FNMS is documented here on page 314?
