  1. How to automate the process of sending snowpacks from Standalone Receiver to Master Inventory Server?

We have agents installed in the segregated area and we cannot send snowpacks directly through the Service Gateway to the Master inventory Server. We do it via Standalone Receiver - from where we manually transfer files to Master Inventory Server. Anyone have an idea how to automate this process without installing Service Gateway?

We could probably make a powershell script that would dump data from the Standalone Receiver directory to some shared directory, and then another script on the Master Inventory server would transfer files from the shared directory to the Master Inventory Server directory.

Are there other ways to automate that?

    • Is this other network segregated from the Master Server by lack of network routing of the Master servers port, as if file copying is still open and all it's associated ports the networks are not segregated.

In a truly segregated network it would be USB stick time from one server to another.

Also if file copying is open port wise - you could look to have the files dropped on the Standalone Receiver but also sent by the Agent to a file drop location on your actual master server.

You still need the standalone receiver as at this time the agent can't use the file drop functionality without some form of HTTP(s) response from an INV server of any type

  2. What wonderful complex, clever creatures we are!

    Author: Jelle Wijndelts

What wonderful complex and clever creatures we are, the amount of decisions we make and information we ‘compute’ consciously or sub-consciously every single second of the day is staggering. Image you are on your way into the office, apart from the bare essentials such as breathing, sub consciously we are processing things like, the route we are taking, the weather conditions, the feel of the steering wheel, the sound of the radio, the engine of the car. We are comparing our surroundings to the last time we travelled the same route, the fact that the building across the road has been repainted, the bike that was chained up against the lamppost has moved. All this is happening without conscious thought. We take in the other traffic on the road, the bike that this coming round the corner, will it turn right or left? Will it stop in time? Will the car behind you stop in time should you have to brake suddenly for the bike? All these are happening in a split second. On top of all that you are thinking about your work day, reminding yourself you have to talk to the Oracle database administrators and request the detailed information to complete the Oracle Server Worksheet, the fact you have to pull information out of several databases to work out how many Windows 7, 8 and hopefully no XP machines are left in the estate, what software is running on them, can the software be transferred onto the Windows 10 computers, whether you have enough licenses, what departments are going to be affected, how long will it take to roll out and train everybody. Oh and make a start on the IBM PVU calculations. It is going to be another busy day if only you could do some of these things sub-consciously (automatically)! Wait you can! You could use Snow software to perform these tasks, it can tell you what Oracle options are installed and being used, it will fill in the majority of the Oracle Server Worksheet, it will tell you how many Windows x machines you have and what software is installed, whether the licenses are transferable, where they are in the estate, who uses them, it will run the IBM PVU calculations for you and lots more. Don’t forget to use your data and analyse. Ask the questions and make the decisions.  #Snow #Dis #Information

  3. Application inventory not working

    hi guys,

We're running version 8.3 revision 07 build 6968, I'm having issues with application inventory on new devices, essentially the snow agent is regularly checking in and inventorying all sections except for applications, here's an example, all tabs are present with data except applications: any ideas? All agents are running the same version.

    • Hi Alex, Has that always been like that or did it stop working at some point? Can you check in your Inventory SMACC that you get something listed under a device's "Software>Installed applications" If nothing is listed, can you check what the config file contains in term of settings for the software scan?

  4. User buy in

    Hi all,

I've been asked to try and find some information to convince our users that Snow is of benefit to them and not just us monitoring them!!

I will of course write about cost savings but i am concerned they will see this as more of a benefit to our IT department and not theirs. Perhaps wording it in the sense of freeing up budget for other software would help!

We are not currently implementing the Automation Platform which i know would bring about a lot of benefits for them. Just the Snow License Manager for the time being.

Can anyone think of anything of the top of their heads as to the benefits of Snow from a user perspective?

    Thank you thank yoou!!!!

  6. License Over assignment

    Hello,

What are possible reasons for "License Over assignment" ? I assigned the licenses to DC as per the MS licensing rule ( min 8 license per proc & 16 lic per server) but when I am running a report "Invalid assignment" it's saying few license are over-assigned. See the below screen shot. DC has 10 proc and 60 cores. I assigned 8 lic to each proc so total is 80 but error is showing Over assignment.

Is there any thing I am missing? because the same thing I did for other DC and getting no error.

    Regards,

    Saurabh

    • What I figured it out that VM residing on Data centers have no windows server data center edition installed, most of the VMs have windows server standard edition installed. But I guess Snow should consider and apply downgrade rights. Why then over-assignment error is coming? Is it a bug in Snow?

    • Community Manager (Flexera Software)

Hi ‌, Start by searching for a application. Now you can use the "SKU" and "Information" tabs to see upgrade, available SKU's etc.
