Hi all,

I've been asked to try and find some information to convince our users that Snow is of benefit to them and not just us monitoring them!!

I will of course write about cost savings but i am concerned they will see this as more of a benefit to our IT department and not theirs. Perhaps wording it in the sense of freeing up budget for other software would help!

We are not currently implementing the Automation Platform which i know would bring about a lot of benefits for them. Just the Snow License Manager for the time being.

Can anyone think of anything of the top of their heads as to the benefits of Snow from a user perspective?

Thank you thank yoou!!!!

Gemma

  • SNOW can be used as Security app if properly configured (black &whitelist for instance); preventing malware's, endpoints without AV, etc. This nowadays should be also a hot topic for end users.. not only IT dept.
  • I would pitch it from services you're providing them, not a vendor tool solution. Because what happens when you decide to take up a different solution that logically would provide the same services.  Snow is an excellent product but their support is a huge disappointment after being with them a few years.
  • Aaah up to date with current versions and free up unused licenses also!
  • Hi Gemma, With the focus on GDPR right now, you could sell it to the end-user that we can see the user accounts on all the devices and know exactly whose data is where. We do of course wipe devices when they are returned, but they don't know that!! I'm sure more ideas will come to me throughout today. Thanks Greg

Hello Gemma, I would recommend that you also reach out to your account manager here at Snow. We are always happy to help with this type of activity, whether it just be supplying collateral or helping you promote the service internally. If you are unsure who to contact just let me know. Best Regards, Tony
  • Here we highly use Snow as a reliable source of information in case we change a user's computer. Snow enables us to make sure we do not forget any software at all. It will also be helpful for budgetting forecasts at a department or team level (if configured properly) Snow can prevent the execution of selected software, hence raising the security level on the network. Also helpful when you want to standardize on an edition or version of a given software, either for cost reasons or for compatibility considerations. Last but not least, this is usually a legal requirement, at least with some Microsoft agreements. You legally have to track software instalations and usage, since some licenses are based on usage (User licenses or CALs) I would add, to nail it down, that keeping up with the licensing aspect is so time/energy consuming that the least of our concerns is to monitor what people are doing

  • Hi Snowcat This is a great question and for someone who is learning and taking on more of a SAM responsibility is the exact type of questions you need to be asking. Heck, we should all be able to continually answer this question! The key point in your question I think is that you've said how do we convince our  users . Selling SAM is all about identifying the right stakeholders so your general user simply will not care, but their managers will. That being said, focusing on users, here are some benefits that I can identify (and trying not to duplicate any other suggestions!). I'm a big advocate of Snow in our organisation and our role as SAM is definitely one of the most underappreciated and misunderstood roles in the entire organisation (in general not just personally) so shouting about its success is paramount! From a user's perspective, the number one thing they care about (they don't care about money, it's not their money) is TIME . Good SAM saves time and Snow makes for good SAM. To put into context, without SAM or Snow, how long would it take if a user were to request a software installation and you had to manually dig around in spreadsheets or dig out old invoices and things to understand what you own? Ages. Your users resolution time has already been reduced drastically before they even realise it. This is a great point to drive home. It saves time for everybody. Obviously the things you've pointed out highlight cost savings and in our organisation there are many many business units that all have their own budgets and cost codes. If you can save a department some money on software then it frees up their budget for other things and maybe not  the users, but managers certainly can appreciate that. Identifying the right stakeholders to communicate these things to is key to achieving buy in. Another benefit to users is the reduction in installation errors. One of my responsibilities is to ultimately approve or reject a request for any software installation. With the information I have on hand captured in Snow, I can make this decision almost instantly and ensure that the appropriate applications are being installed. Reducing errors reduces risk and again, reduces time! There are a lot of benefits, I'm happy to point out more but I'm away this is becoming something of an essay so I'll cut it short there for now! Hope this helps!
