How can I set up a license for Freeware that shows Yes for Maintenance?

Situation:

We utilize many open source and other freeware applications and utilities.

We also utilize many KPIs on a monthly and quarterly basis.

One KPI I create is % of licenses that have maintenance.

Clearly, the Commercial licenses (subscriptions, renewal maintenance, etc.) clearly take their Maintenance from the Procurement info from POs or Credit Cards.

However, I want the licenses I've created to map to my open source/freeware applications to show as having maintenance, but of course, they have no procurement info.

Is there a way to make a license show Yes for Maintenance without having procurement info feeding the license?

I am trying to set up and configure my licenses so that simple reports I create will show Yes for these. I want to avoid kludge things to force fake data to make the licenses show this Yes.

Thoughts?

  • I would consider changing the KPI and perhaps even introduce another KPI.

The only way I know to get the maintenance flag on freeware is to attach fake purchases, but freeware are per say not under license maintenance if we are not talking about like RedHat, anaconda and so forth.

I would filter the licenses for your KPI to not count the ones that contains ex (Freeware).

Then you can introduce another KPI how many % of your SW estate is FOSS v/s Licensed.
