Jessica Jurcik asked a question.
Hello everyone,
My name is Jessica, and I’m a Support Analyst at Elo. I’m currently starting the implementation of Flexera One within our organization, with a focus on IT asset management and software license management.
I’m joining this community to learn from professionals who already have experience with the platform. I would greatly appreciate any tips, best practices, configuration recommendations, governance advice, guidance on deploying Beacons and Agents, or any lessons learned that could help us avoid common mistakes at the beginning of this journey.
Thank you in advance for your support. I look forward to exchanging experiences and learning from the community!
Thank you! 😊
Welcome to the community @Jessica Jurcik you're definitely in the right place and congrats on kicking off a Flexera One implementation in your org. Hopefully some of our experienced members can share their top tips from similar journeys. Look forward to seeing you around the community :)
Hi
Beacons
the most impotant thing to have in mind when deploying beacons is the design of your corporate network , which segments is allowed to communicate. Think of ex corporate scene, DMZ, high security zones, cloud/hyperscalers and public facing beacons for remote workers. You want to inventory all of them and depending on the security rules some of them might be allowed to cross.
We install the beacon software manually for the first time and then allow the beacons to auto-upgrade. Cleanup of old installation files and logs you probably want to script. Internet facing beacons evaluate mTLS.
adjust the beacon configuration xml file to set DNS aliases.
Agents
Mac agents require a domain to be set in the configuration for the calculated user to be calculated.
mac, linux, unix require a response file before installing package. But I recommend building a repair.sh script that fix the config.ini script and that triggers flxconfig to download policy.
Activate the usage metering by setting Disabled=false and then add the switch to cover addremove uasage metering. There are articles describing those configurations.
ensure adding multiple bootstrap beacons, described in the forum in several other posts
deploy by using GPO or SCCM, auto-upgrade or handle by third party. If auto-upgrade then ensure to test on a few devices first. Struggled quite alot lately on Linux.
Ensure setting Flexera as primary inventory source, but I would still recommend secondary sources like SCCM, Intune and so forth
activate all extra settings under inventory settings like IBM, detailed inventory dsta, docker, podman, oracle middleware etc
goid luck
