Toddmichael Janiszewski asked a question.
Situation:
I am creating 1000+ AV equipment hardware assets via Beacon Adapter. These are non-inventory device assets. I am doing this in small batches, since many of these assets have new locations I need to create on the file just prior to the asset creation.
Once successfully created, I go and create the Location in our hierarchy.
I am attempting to then create a Beacon Adapter to add the Assigned User, Location, and Category to these hardware assets. Every bulk import attempt has failed to map and assign these 3 fields of information.
My data source CSV basically looks like this:
I am doing the following in the Business Adapter:
In the Asset Object Mapping...
- Set adapter to look at my CVS and trace on Asset Tag. (Screenshot 1)
- Using Asset Tag as the matching key. (I was not provided serial numbers for many assets.) (Screenshot 2)
- I've set Location ID to look at the CSV Location column and to always update (Screenshot 3)
- I've set Assigned To User ID to look at the CSV Assigned User column and to always update (Screenshot 4).
- I've set Category ID to look at the CSV Category column and to always update (Screenshot 5).
I then execute the adapter.
Should this not work?
I've tried looking at other questions in the forums, as well as the documentation, and unless I am missing something, this should work, no?
What am I missing?
This is a simple task and in other ITAM applications I've used, this is also basically how it works to bulk update existing assets. I am a relatively new user to Flexera, and if I am reading everything correctly, this is how it should be done, correct?
I've changed this here and there to try and get it to assign these existing data elements to the hardware asset tags but I cannot get anything I do to work as I would expect it to.
Please help!
Hi @Toddmichael Janiszewski Thank you for reaching out. We will look into this further on our end.
We also see that a support case has been created and assigned to an engineer for investigation. Please refer to case #05021614. The assigned engineer will connect with you at your convenience to provide further assistance and support with this issue.
Thank you.
You need to set properties like Location ID, Category ID and Assigned To User ID to internal database ID values that are looked up using other objects configured earlier in the adapter before the Asset object. The values shown in the screenshot of the sample data in CSV format are not internal database IDs, so they will be ignored.
To look up internal database IDs:
