What are the criteria for displaying data for the 'User' column in the 'Application per User' or 'Application per Computer and User' reports?

My understanding is that the 'User' column only populates if a specific user has active usage on a machine. Do metric settings such as 'Usage within metering period''All primary users', or 'All computer users' affect how this data is displayed? Additionally, how is the 'User' data handled when an application has multiple metrics enabled, such as both Installation and Users?

  • Thanks very much for logging your question.

Please see the supporting details below:

The ‘User’ column is shown only when Snow Atlas can associate a discovered user with the application or the device that the application is on. Report behaviour does not depend on the application’s metric settings.

Metric settings—such as “usage within metering period”, “all primary users”, or “all computer users”—affect license calculation but do not determine whether a user appears in these reports.

When an application has multiple metrics (e.g., Installation + User), Snow Atlas does not prioritize metrics for reporting. It simply displays a user when user‑level evidence exists or when a device with the application has a known associated user.

    • Thanks @Alexsaunders for your response. This means that the 'User' column will only populate if the application is actually launched by the user; otherwise, the field will remain blank. Right?

  • Hi @Kishan Pant, these reports show the applications associated with the user or computer. E.g. when a computer is scanned, the applications and users are scanned and are associated. This is independent from usage. If you activate metering, then the usage columns like "Last used" are populated. If you want to have more information we can hop on a call.
