  • My experience is quiet the opposite: Snow Agent for Windows is causing no performance issues at all.

By default, the priority of the process ist set to "below normal".

Even customers of mine that did research on the Snow Inventory Agent came back to me saying "you don't even notice that it is running".

So I am just curious where your statement comes from that the Agent consumes a lot of CPU.

  • On Linux it is true, but on Windows Snow Agent can consumes a lot of more CPU.

I wonder how to reduce consumption CPU by Snow Agent, but not in Windows settings only in the agent.

    Hi Joanna,

as Axel mentioned, normaly you don't notice that the Agent runs!

Screenshot 2022-07-19 134035here you can see the status without a scan! it is 0

Screenshot 2022-07-19 134217Here you can see the status with a scan! It is a peak to 18,2 for a few seconds Normaly 30 - 45 sec once a day the scan is done!

I would say that is negligible.

if you have other values (much higher) please contact the support!

BTW: What version of Snow Agent and OS are in use?

  • Hi,

we've managed to fix this issue by adding the following parameter in the Snow Agent config file:

    <Setting key="process_affinity" value="3"/>

This ties the Agent scan process to first two logical CPU cores(Core#0 + Core#1) and fixes 2 following points:

    1. overall scan time is decreased by x5-x6 (from ~45-50 mins to ~8-10mins)
    2. CPU consumption during the scan decreased from 70-90% to ~12%

Hope you'll find this info helpful :)

26.1 has some improvements, and like @Andrii Branovskyi  has advised amending the process affinity can help .
