VMWare SIM Connector collected data of VMHost

Within our organisation we have the VMWare SIM connector installed. With this we collect the data from a VMWare host for its hardware details and hosted Virtual Machines. Our VMWare environment is partially configured with VCenter and a bigger part is not.

What we now experience is that de VMHost collected which are managed/connect with a VCenter are reporting a datacenter name. Al Virtual Machines are "orphaned" in the SLM overview under this "datacenter".

My issue is related to the VMHost not managed/connect to a VCenter. Those are placed in a random datacenter. In the SLM overview I must search through all datacenters.

What must I change in the configuration; either on the side of the SIM server or on the side of my VMWare host so that the correct naming is being used.

According to SNOW support the information (datacenter name) is in the Snowpack file. But they can't tell where to change or where to influence this; because the Snowpack file is being generated from the Webservices SDK.

I tried to manual create the datacenters I miss; this result in double registration of the VMHosts; they are put on the manual created datacenter but also in the datacenter I don't want to.

  • Hi Michael,

What version of the SIM are you running?

SIM 5.13 or prior had the ability to override the DCC name coded in to the Snowpack, but this was removed so it can only be known as what the SIM gets directly from vCenter.

The other thing to maybe check is in the SLM SMACC - Basic Settings is you have Minimum DCC's set to 1 to pick up single hosts that are not part of clusters/Datacentres.
