Hello,
I'm trying to redundantly to configure the Snow Inventory Agent to send the .snowpack forcibly.
My environment of close to 8000 desktops is heavily uncertain under the aspect of usage. By this I mean that we have departments where computers stays turned off for long time and usually support technicians have to turn on computers spread over several locations. Even though the retention policy configured at SLM (45 days) avoid them to be wrongly archived, I have outdated data about those computers.
This is my current snowagent.config:
<Span>
<StarTime>PT00H00M</StarTime>
<EndTime>PT23H59M</EndTime>
</Span>
<Occurance>
<Weekday>monday</Weekday>
<Weekday>tuesday</Weekday>
<Weekday>wednesday</Weekday>
<Weekday>thursday</Weekday>
<Weekday>friday</Weekday>
<Weekday>saturday</Weekday>
<Weekday>sunday</Weekday>
</Occurance>
...
<Schedule>
<Task>
<Occurance>
<AtLogOn>false</AtLogOn>
<AtStart>false</AtStart>
<Daily>true</Daily>
</Occurance>
<Action>scan</Action>
<TimeOfDay>PT09H00M</TimeOfDay>
<Randomize>90</Randomize>
</Task>
</Schedule>
<SystemSettings>
The following changes are being evaluated:
<Occurance>
<AtLogOn>true</AtLogOn>
<AtStart>true</AtStart>
<Daily>true</Daily>
</Occurance>
<Randomize>60</Randomize>
- Is occurrence parameters exclusive? Or Could I enable all three possibilities? (Once that a scheduled scan will never be performed more frequently than once a day, I'll be sure that under some of the possibilities the scan/send will be executed)
- Randomize time reduction, narrowing the range of possible scan/send times.
I'll appreciate suggestions of other actions that we could take.

Hi,
The only options I see is "At startup", "Daily", "Weekly" and "Monthly".
You can combine "At startup" with either Daily, WEekly or Monthly, but you can't combine Daily with Weekly or Monthly in any combination.
I think I would try to add "On startup" and leave the rest as it is.
Just my 2ct,
Axel
When you say the computers are switched off do you mean powered off or nobody is logged in? If a computer is switched off the agent of course is also not running and as such it will not respond. if just logged off then the agent is running and it will report back even if no user is logged on.
There are a number of commands you could use to force the agent to scan and send. 'Snowagent.exe scan' and 'snowagent.exe send' you can find more information here. some customer have added it to a small batch file that is launched after booting up or onto a usb drive that the engineers run manually. A third option is to consider some type of wake on LAN option where you can boot/wake up your computers remotely and then run the commands.
Hello Jelle,
yes, by turned off I mean powered off.
I was considering to this batch file and to put it on the startup tasks of every computer, one concern that I have over this action is that the "manual" run of scan/send may cause the computer to be inventoried more than once daily. Do you believe that this would be bad in some way?
Thank you for your contribution.
