Can an Asset be Created?

In an effort to capture end to end Lifecycle Status of our devices, am I able to create an asset within SNOW as they are ordered? For example, I am ordering 100 laptops - I have the model and SN of each, I'd like to create the asset in Snow with a lifecycle status of "Ordered". Once they arrive, I can update the status to "Received"and so on through the Lifecycle of the asset. I'd like to do this for all of our hardware: laptops, desktops, servers, routers, etc.

James, raise an idea and i will back it, other tools have this capability and Snow should look to develop within their own toolset and bring in the asset lifecycle - not just for hardware but for software as well.. this will bring great benefit and reward.

You should be able to import them with SnowXML, perhaps this link will explain . David

I am interested in the answer to this as well. I don't see an import template for Hardware Assets.

Hi Both You can add objects, but PC's should be added as computers. The only way to do this is via the Inventory server and installing agent's on them. Once they've completed an initial scan they will appear in the SLM computer list. You can update computer details, but not create new ones in SLM. This is as per design to ensure that your inventory data is as accurate and up to date as possible. So in short, no, there's no way to do this. Adam
