Number of cores reported by Snow vs. the operating system

We have a server with an 4 * AMD Opteron(TM) Processor 6272 (2.10 GHz) processors, and Snow reports 8 cores per proc therefore 32 cores in total. However the server is running Linux and reports 64 cores in total - which is correct from a licensing point-of-view?

Could it be something to do with the way Linux reports the cores - does it count hyperthreading as cores?

Thanks

  • Searching for this Processor leads to the AMD website, where the specifiations list 16 Cores and 16 Threads for this processor type. So 64 should be correct.

The 8 cores per processor is the minimum regarding Windows licensing, but this does not apply here.

If Snow doen not reports the correct cores, the first question should be "where does the data come from"? Snow Inventory Agent? 3rd party tool?

iF the Snow Inventory Agent was used, you should open a support case with snow.
