How to exclude SQL when it is an "included technology"?

Microsoft sells products that come with SQL, like System Center products.

I would like to exclude from the compliance those instances of SQL running on SCCM or DPM servers. The criteria dropdown list does not have an item called "Application installed" or similar to filter Servers that have a specific application installed.

How are you doing in your environment to exclude those instances?

(Our server names are not following a standard strict enough to be used for that unfortunately)

  • Hi Samuel,

We do not have a lot of such servers, so I do it manually at the moment.

But perhaps an idea, would be to use a custom field. You can select custom fields in that drop down box.

Especially for SQL Servers I started in the past to use a Custom Field "Licensing Model". Here I add for example Core, Server/CAL, ISV, Developer, SCOM, ...

So I think you perhaps could also use a custom field, fill this custom field (with values SCCM, DPM) by a custom procedure in DUJ based on your mentioned "Application installed".

In Compliance exclusions it then would be possible to select the computers by "custom field" = SCCM

    Perhaps that may help you

  • I have sometimes created bundles for similar purposes.

    • Thanks for that brilliant idea!

We currently use a custom field to track the environment (Test/Prod/QA, ...) but did not think about having a "Licensing model" one.

Definitely looks like a feature that should be there out of the box :)
