Does Anybody Know Why This Is Happening? ACRORD32. EXE
Why is this happening? We can't get rid of this Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2015 entry.
Yes, DC 2015 is no longer installed but DC 2020 is. Snow is lighting up on ACRORD32.EXE for both versions and DC 2015 is nowhere to be found on the asset. We are running Win 10 with the 5.3 Snow agent (SI 5 and SLM 8)
Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 20.6 acrord32.exe
Type: File
Manufacturer: Adobe Systems Incorporated
Path: c:\program files (x86)\adobe\acrobat reader dc\reader\acrord32.exe
Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 15.7 acrord32.exe
Type: File
Manufacturer: Adobe Systems Incorporated
Path: c:\program files (x86)\adobe\acrobat reader dc\reader\acrord32.exe
When we had that behavior, it was because a device had been running the application remotely.
So the metering triggers the detection of the application ... which I think is not quite correct, I have a ticket with Snow for that.
A remote usage should be reported as "TS-Adobe Acobat Reader DC 2015" or something similar.
One possible reason is the "METERING_HISTORY _MONTHS" setting in SnowMACC, as the infirmation will be kept until this period expires.
After updating an application on a computer, you will see both versions on the computer, the oler one being marked as uninstalled and not comsuming licenses.
Another option is, that the uninstallation of 2015 did not work properly and left wome remainders on the machine.
In some cases it left remnants in the registry as uninstall keys. Doing a regedit got rid of those and cleared the inventory. Others however, had no registry entry and still appeared in the inventory even though the software was completely gone and the metering history had long since passed. Removing the asset from the inventory and letting Snow repopulate seemed to help in those cases.
"Interesting" behaviour.
The first issue should not happen, but we see this often (e.g. MS Project Professional uninstalled and still reported into inventory). Some of our customers have added a Snow LM check to their software packaging process for installation and especially uninstallation.
The second situation shows in my opinion, that the application is not really reported as installed into Inventory.
Removing and re-adding the computer is not really a solution. I am just wondering if SLM9 would do any better.
