Hi, we use the SNOW WebConfigurator (ImportService) and import custom compare value with a floating number (exp.0.5) but we were not able to import as this will not be recognized. Has anyone else ever had such a case? Where is the Documentation? BR
Any particular reason why you want to import a number of required licenses with decimals?
Is is likely that very few people had this situation because they never saw the need.
If you describe the need, we can help.
Example: if the decimals come from a coefficient applied to the requirement based on the CPU type (PVU), then is could be that a round-up is necessary before sending through the Web Configurator.
Hi Samuel,
thank you for the update!
This request came up because of licensing situation of RedHat. There we have the point Dev will be counted as 0.25, UAT as 0.5 and Prod as 1 as example. Therefore we would like to link and add this information to ensure the right license count.
Do you may see another way how we could manage this kind of situation?
Kind Regards
André
That makes sense, of course.
I am not too familiar with that type of metric but would the product even allow a license requirement with decimals? Or do you need to round up (or down)?
Note that SLM offers a feature to license IBM products using PVU according to the SLM User Guide:
2.13 IBM PVU LICENSING
Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which an IBM software can be licensed. The
number of required PVU entitlements is based on the processor model and by the number of
processors made available to the software. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose
of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip (socket). A dual-core processor chip,
for example, has two processor cores.
In Snow License Manager, IBM PVU licensing is managed by the metric PVU, which is defined to
use the PVU values of the computers as basis for the compliance calculation.
The IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT) automatically determines the required PVU for each computer,
as part of the inventory of the machine. This information can be automatically integrated with
Snow License Manager to define which PVU value to use for each installation. Integration of ILMT
data is done via the Snow Integration Manager (SIM).
In Snow License Manager, information on PVU values can be found here:
▪ In the Search for computers view, add the column PVU per core from the column selector
▪ In Computer details and on the Information tab, see information on PVU per core
Also, the administrator will be alerted on any licenses for IBM software that are registered with
other metrics than PVU:
▪ The alert There is [number] licenses with incompatible metrics for PVU licensed IBM
