Why are some uninstalled apps still being reported on

Hi,

recently set about addressing some rogue installations. I contact the desktop team, they confirm app is uninstalled and yet when I re-run a report a couple of days later it it still being reported as being installed.

However, when I drill into each device I can see the said application highlighted in orange which is an indicator that this has been uninstalled.

If an auditor requested a report, these would still be present, how can I get Snow to report a true view without having to drill into each device?

In addition to this, why don't the standard reports in Snow reflect the correct position either.

During some audits we will get asked to report on a set list of attributes and I don't really want to have to tweak a report after, sometimes an auditor would want to see the report as it pulls down from Snow and the uninstalled applications will still be present.

Suggestions welcome, or is this something to do with the configuration in SMAC as this is managed by my service provider.

  • Hi Peter, I have the same problem like you have. The report applications per computer lists installed and metered applications. You can add the column Installed to that report. When that column is empty, the application is not installed. But it is not possible to filter that column by "is empty" or "is not empty". But I often need to create reports that only shows installed applications. I shortly created that idea: ‌ I assume this would also help you

Hi Peter,   At this moment the application stays there as long as the metering period is not over.   That said, I think it is a good idea to take into account the removed applications in the compliance reports. Or at least have a second report showing the compliance position based on the actually installed applications.   At this moment I haven’t seen a feature request for this so if you can add this idea to the Snow Ideas board I will definitely vote for it.   In the meantime, you could use a second report called Application Installation History . You can add filters for the specific application and hand it over during the audit/review as well.   Off course making sure your environment is always up to date is even better. Have you heard about our Automation Platform (AP)? With AP you will be able to remove applications automatically if they haven’t been used. This way you don’t have to start removing application whenever you get an audit (reactive SAM) but unused applications are already removed by AP (proactive SAM). Check out our SAM automationbook document for AP.   Best regards, Jeroen

    • Hi Jeroen, thank you for you reply and I will look at the alternative reports for now and will look at adding this to the Snowboard ideas. I am aware of AP, looks like a great addition and is something we are looking at. Regards
