Integration Manager XML Import successful - but application not appearing in SLM

I am using the Snow XML connector in Snow Integration Manager to import some XML files.

The import into Inventory works fine and the applications are listed in Inventory - but after the DUJ not all applications are visible in License Manager (some are - which tells me that I'm not completely wrong).

Is there a logfile which I could check?

Hi, as you import data from a foreign source it is important to know if you are dealing with application names or pathes and filenames  from a file scan in your data source. If you like to have "pre-recognized" applications - meaning you do not have file names and paths from a file scan - treated correct with SnowXML you will have to consider the flag "isrecognized=true" in the application tag of your SnowXML. If you extract the information about the application e. g. from WMI additionally the flag "ismsi=true" can be helpful. You see the results in Snow Inventory using SMACC after SnowXML import, navigating to the machine, select "software" and then "pre-recognized applications". You can try out the recogniton running a data update job. It might still be that teh applications are not recognized. Uploading these results using SUS and generating a ticket for Snow support with the SnowXML and the unrecognized application attached may be helpful then, just in case. Maybe this is a little less complex then.

Hi Robin, Most likely some software did not meet any name matching or did not meet a recognition rule. The software titles would then appear in the following list in SMACC. Do you have any recent entries there? /marcel
    • Thanks Marcel - I think this is the right direction. However - I still don't know what I'm doing wrong:  Example: Via XML I'm trying to import a system based on 'VMware Photon Platform 1 (VMware)' - but the very same application still appears in the Unassigned Inventoried Software list after I run the import.  Is there a documentation which explains the mapping of the XML elements/attributes with the application name, manufacturer name, version etc?

      • Hi Robin, Since the VMWare Photon 1.0 application has no recognition rule under your application, the inventoried software entry remains unassigned. You can decide to leave the VMware application as it is without rules (just there to be able to assign licenses to it but no detection will be made) or you can also create your own custom application with your custom rules if you think they will do a better job. For example you could create a new application (See "New Application" button on the ribbon) and then select your unassigned record (coming from your XML import) and click the "New Rule From Selected" button. This will add a new rule that you can tweak to your custom application. As a result, during the next Data Update Job, your application will be recognized and will appear in SLM. There is some good information to start in this thread: https://community.snowsoftware.com/message/4001-re-unable-to-edit-application-definition-rules?commentID=4001#comment-4001
