How to exclude WIndows server Virtual Machines from the compliance calculator
Hi Guys,
I Need exclude the virtual machine from the compliance calculation. Can someone help me?
- SamuelBaughanHi Joaquim, Indeed, in some specific cases you would want to exclude some VMs, if they do not run a Windows Server OS for example ... but Snow would already take that into account for you. I could think of a few situations though: If you are testing a version of Windows Server as allowed on your Microsoft agreement => you can create a temporary license just to see a green compliance or you can ignore the negative compliance (test instances are allowed for a short limited period anyway) If the application you run on the VM is covered by the installation on the physical host => You can define an extended coverage in Snow to cover both the host and the VMs As ‌ said, if you are facing a very unusual situation, please let us know, it is very likely that Snow already has a feature for that, if not, I'm pretty sure there is a viable workaround RegardsExpand Post
- Joaquim CabralHy Samuel, My case is second option, VM's executing on hosts. Part of the machines is covered and another part is not. Do you know if exist any roole or feature that make like batch? Other case, Some machine is with the problem to get Hypervisor information (Infraestructure problem, firewall) and at that moment it is not possible to solve, are just a few. These machines are not compliant in the report, what do you recommend? Tks a Lot!Expand Post
- SamuelBaughanHi Joaquim, The license assignment can be automated if you use the License Assignment Import Excel template . You can find it when you browse to Home>Import Data>License Import. This will allow you to properly assign your licenses in one shot because one of the field is the host to which you want to assign the license. Here is the KB article that explains how to fill out the template (see chapter 10). In your second case, I didn't fully understand. Is it 1) your Hyper-V SIM Connector has issues reading the Hyper-V data or is it 2) the agent on individual VMs that is blocked by the firewall? If it is only your SIM Connector, then most of the data should still be coming from the individual agents but you would probably be missing the Host/Guest correspondence. Could an exception be made on the firewall side? Normally, ports 80 and 443 are the only requirements and those ports are usually already open. RegardsExpand Post
