Best practice of updating Snow Agent's for Android

I have now a couple of different versions of the Snow Agent installed on our Android mobile devices - 5.1, 5.4, 5.5.0, 5.5.2 ....

Most of them where installed as a APK from our server so are not updated with Google Play.

What is the best practice and approach of updating the clients to the latest version (now 5.6)?

Hi Adam, Very good question, in my organisation we setup our devices and google play accounts to automatically update when the device is connected to WiFi. This could be an option for you and your organisation, hope this helps in some way. Kind Regards Harry

  Hi Harry, The user has to have a google play account and setup it be himself on his phone or do you setup an account on that device with the deployment? How do you deploy Snow to new devices? In my case many users don't have a google play account configured on their work phones and the Snow App is installed as an APK outside the google play store. Kind Regards Adam

    Hi Adam, We setup a google account on the phone before it is given out, this way we have control over the gmail account etc. Our Users are welcome to add their own email addresses to the device. Snow is deployed onto the new devices and so the user doesn't see any of this, so when they get the phone it is ready to go and able to download applications etc. As you are deploying as an APK file have you tried updating the Snow App via deploying a new APK files for Snow on the devices? Wonder if that would work? Kind Regards Harry

    Hi Adam you can try to update the Snow app this way. Download current snow 5.6.1 apk file here: https://m.snow.dm/dl/561/snow.apk Copy apk to smartphones and install app as I described here: https://community.snowsoftware.com/docs/DOC-1350-installation-of-an-android-apk-file regards Siggi

    Hi, Is this the official download place for the APKs? On my phone the snow App is 5.6.2. Will the APKs be updated there like https://m.snow.dm/dl/562/snow.apk or do I have to contact support for the newest version?

The supported way to do this in bulk at the moment is thru the Domain Admin tool, from there you can trigger "Component Update" for any container (or root) of devices. Just make sure that the snow.apk in the android profile in the system is up to date. Because this .apk is the one that will be used for the update.
