What indicates that Oracle Database is installed?

When the Snow Inventory Oracle Scanner (SIOS) scans a machine, what file or files does it look for that indicate the installation of Oracle Database?  I ask because we're finding that it is picking up backups of files in compressed tar.gz files, so machines are not showing up as clean.

Thanks, Jonathan

Hi Jonathan, I'm neither a database admin nor a Snow technical expert, but I try to explain in my simple way. The SIOS is started from the Snow agent. So, when the agent detects database executables, corresponding application names, specific folders - in other words an ORACLE_HOME - , the SIOS starts running against the database instance. For the SIOS to access the database a database user may be required for each database. Here I copy from the SIOS User Guide: "When performing automatic Oracle inventory via the user that runs the database instance, the required permissions are already granted to the user. When performing Oracle inventory using a specific Oracle user, the user needs to be granted the permissions" ... as documented in the SIOS User Guide. In both cases SELECT queries are run against database  tables/views for getting detailed information about the installation and usage of the database. Coming back to your detected backups, what exactly do you see for such backups in SLM/OMO web frontend? Best Regards, Alex
