Snow Inventory Agent 5 Settings (windows) configuration ...
Dear All I’ve two questions related to the above topic:                What should added or change in the “snowagent.config” file to scan Microsoft Software only? Please provide a specific example on way how it should be done… I don’t understand how the syntax should be in the into doc file - https://community.snowsoftware.com/docs/DOC-1244-all-snow-inventory-agent-5-settings-with-detailed-explanations#Configuration_Software               How add in the “snowagent.config” file a special TAG to the computer or user (such as “MS Software Only”), that will be presented in the SLM.   Thank you!

  • Would be interested in knowing why you want to hide products from  other vendors?
  • Hi Nahum, in reply to your question, I make an assumption first: By "Microsoft Software" you mean software from the vendor Microsoft, not software that runs on Microsoft operating systems, right? Ad 1) That cannot really be achieved using config settings. I could think about a clumsy workaround using the include/exclude path settings, and not running the agent as a service (so it can't detect running processes). However, this is a quite theoretical approach, and not in line with what Snow is intended to do (= provide a most complete inventory of your software usage), nor what you would need for proper SAM. Ad 2) This could be done by multiple ways: a) Use the config name as tag b) Read a custom registry key from the registry, you deployed first. Do so by configuring the snowagent.config accordingly. c) Use a custom PowerShell script to return a reg key or software product that gives you such a tag. If you want to transfer the results to a custom field in SLM, talk to your Snow representative about a customer DUJ that transfers the information from to a custom field. a) and b) then also can be used in Auto-Connect rules to move the machines to a certain org unit too. However, and without going into the details of SAM here, I'd go another way, if I really only wanted to have Microsoft Software in my SLM. 1) Configure SI and the agents according to Snow best practices (= Scan all software on the machines) 2) Use a default DUJ 3) Configure the vendor filter in SLM SMaCC to hide all other vendors than "Microsoft%" (System-wide setting!) If you could provide some more insight in why you want to hide other vendor's products, we might be able to come up with a better approach. Best regards, Stefan
