Is_Supported and Versions_From_Current Columns

I was wondering if there is a data field in any of the Snow tables that provides information on whether or not the application is supported.

Also I am interested in deltas among a version indexes to learn how far behind a certain instance of an application is behind the most current.

Both of these are very important questions my CIO is asking regarding software asset management and our current installation environment..

Hi Sean, In the current version of Snow License Manager we have these default reports : Applications nearing End of Extended Support Applications nearing End of Life Applications nearing End of Support Would this help answer your CIO's questions? Jan Christoffels
    • Thank you Jan for the quick response. It could possibly help with the CIO's question. What does "nearing end of extended support", "nearing end of life", and "nearing end of support" mean in the eyes of Snow? I do not see of "no longer supported" in contrast to "nearing end of..." support, extended support, or life. What table in the Snow License Manager is the End-of-Support date data column? I am interested to see how complete this column is or if it is similar to the release date data column which has too many values for a full evaluation of my enterprise's software installation environment.

Sean, The thresholds for EoS and EoES is 3 months for warning and 1 month for critical. It is not configurable. Currently this information is not showed in the application information tab, it is in our backlog to add it. There are no plans to add functionality to override this information, if it is not correct it should be reported via our support. EoS and EoMS is the equivalent. Hope this helps Jan
    • It did and I was able to find the support date columns in the "SnowLicenseManager" database on the table "tblApplication" for my reporting. My question is where does Snow get these End of Support and End of Life dates from (BDNA, Nessus, etc.)? My CIO will want to understand the validity of this data for his own assurance.

Sean, The magic happens via our Software Recognition Service. Snow’s Software Recognition Service takes the legwork and guesswork out of recognizing and understanding what software applications have been installed across the multi-site, multi-platform network.  The Software Recognition Service provides  Snow License Manager   customers with daily updates, supporting automatic recognition, normalization and categorization of more than 508,000 applications from around 80,000 software publishers.  Hope this helps. Jan

        • Jan,  I am more interested in where the application data comes from? Where are the end of support, end of extended support, end of life, release date, and other application data alike coming from. Does Snow use crowd sourcing? Industry accepted standardization? There are many SAM tools out there and some provide different information regarding this data. We want to know the data source so we can understand how to utilize the data. I hope that makes sense.  Thank you for your responses.

Hi Sean, Great question, our Snow’s Software Recognition Service takes the legwork and guesswork out of recognizing and understanding what software applications have been installed across the multi-site, multi-platform network.  The Software Recognition Service provides  Snow License Manager   customers with daily updates, supporting automatic recognition, normalization and categorization of more than 513,000 applications from around 80,500 software publishers.  Unlike most SAM solutions that rely on static libraries, Snow’s Software Recognition Service provides a daily update to customers’ software recognition databases and supports more cloud services, software vendors and applications than any other software recognition technology. Snow’s expert teams in Sweden and the USA are constantly adding new titles, minimizing unrecognized software on the network. More info can be found here . Hope this helps Jan Christoffels

            • I appreciate the response although it appears there was some repetition in your two answers. Do you also crowd source any of the application and when Snow's expert teams are adding titles, are they contacting the manufacturer directly for information?
