Grouping applications (i.e. using UNSPSC)

HI

I want to group our used applications to get it aligned with software (application) responsible roles. I heard that SNOW follows the UNSPSC standard.

Is this allocation transparent available in the database and adressable via UNSPSC code-digits?

Best regards

Markus Metzger

Hi ‌ That is correct, our SRS uses the UNSPSC standard to give each application an 'Application type' within Snow License Manager - For example:
    • Hello Julia thank you for your contribution to my request. This function is wellknown, but it does not help as most of the application is double or tripple flagged. I want to establish the following allocation: (installed )application -> is standard of -> software group -> is govened by -> software owner (role or person) For this model I need a single point-to-point relation.

Hi ‌ Ah ok - I think not, but I will speak to the DIS team and find out for you.

Hi ‌ The best way to accomplish this is to create your own custom field for applications. This would allow you to tag each one with the proper "Software Group" and then you can assign a "Governed By" owner.     Now you can list all applications and export to "Excel" This will allow you to do build updates to the applications and their corresponding custom fields. Once you have finished import the data back into License Manager to bulk update the custom fields.

Hi Markus, The UNSPSC codes are available in the database, but they are just the codes behind the data that Julia has already highlighted to you, so where a product had multiple flags, then even using the codes from the database you will see multiple records for each application. Mark.
  • Hi ? Did you manage to assign a specific User or Role to a specific App Family or your purpose was only to fulfill the app details with more information (custom fields)? Would be interesting to give "edition rights" for instance to the user responsible for a particular App or Software Group as you mentioned in your query. BR,
    • Hello Goncalo as far as we know the autorization concept of SLM does not focus on content of any field (except organization). It is based on functional level. So it will not be possible to assign a specific application to a dedicated person. BR Markus
