Comparing Application by User and Application by Computer Reports

Good Morning,

I am looking at usage of programs by user and by computer. My final goal is to find out which licenses are being underutilized and which users are not using the licenses that we have purchased for them.

I ran the all applications by users and all applications by computers report. I have hit a snag. The applications by computer report shows that 100 people use application x. Applications by users shows that 150 people use application x. We do not share computers, so the number should be the same. It should actually be higher on the by computer report since that shows unused installations and the by users one doesn't.

Let me know if this is as clear as mud.

Hi Sarah, I am afriad this is a very difficult question to answer without seeing the actual data. I just picked a random application on our estate, and I can see 150 computers in the applications per computer report, and 105 users in the applications per user report. This appears to be correct as we have unused installation of the software out there. We do have some shared machines, we also have applications hosted on servers and accessed by multiple users, so in many cases our user count is legitimately higher than our install count. I can imagine you would not want to post your data in this public forum, so I guess your best bet is to contact Snow support and see if they can help you to understand the data you are seeing. Mark.

  Hi Mark, I have more users per application than computers per application. Since we do not share machines and since I know we have computers on which software is installed but not used, I should have the same result you do. Instead, I show that we have significantly more users per application than we have installations. I'm really not sure how that is possible. I have submitted a ticket. Best Regards, Sarah
