  1. Mac: Update before scan or the other way round?

With the Snow agent for Mac, it seems that the agent starts the scan first and only checks for updates second.

Because the agent on Mac devices only ever wakes up once a day, when an update is pushed to the clients through the SMACC, the effect is only visible after a lapse of 3 days:

    • Day 0: I create the agent update push
    • Day 1: The Mac device scans with the old version of the agent, then updates to the new version
    • Day 2: The Mac device scans with the new agent and reports into SI
    • Day 3: the results show in SLM after the DUJ

I am not sure but ... Is that really the preferred behaviour? Or is this an idea for the Ideas Board to have the update first and the scan second?

    • Hi Samuel That's been my experience too. However sometimes I've found that the agent doesn't always update after a scan. Adam

  2. Push MAC Client using SNOW Inv Server

I looked through all the old SNOW MAC discussions and didn't find anything that answered my question. So I'll ask, sorry if this is a repeat.

I see some MAC's through SNOW Inventory SMACC discovery. I try to create a deployment to them but the MAC Agent is not listed under Inventory Agent - Select a Package to deploy, only the Win32 | 0 | xx.xx.xx packages.

MAC OSX 6.0.1 Shows up as latest client on the SMACC Overview page. How does it get to the Select a Package point?

Hi Mark, the capability to deploy agents to new endpoints is only available for the windows platform. You can update an existing deployed MacOS agent using SMACC, however not deploy to a new machine. A good idea would be to create an idea on the   to cover off this functionality

Hi Jörg, 1. Start a terminal and use sudo for all commands.   2. Stop the snowagent and xMetering daemon processes with the command lines:   launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.snowsoftware.Inventory.plist   launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.snowsoftware.Metering.plist   3. Delete all installed files, data files and temporary files with the following command lines:   sudo rm –fR /opt/snow   sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.snowsoftware.Inventory.plist   sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.snowsoftware.Metering.plist

  3. Mac agent update to 6.0.1

    Hi,

I am trying to push out a new Mac agent, so we can test an update to v6.0.1.  The old agent is working ... and reporting in.  However, when I try to push out the new agent via the SMACC it fails repeatedly.  There is an error in the agent log saying this:

    ERROR:

snowagent Update/StagingStatusChecker.cpp; CheckVersion; Cannot get version string from 'snowagent' binary in update package: /tmp/snow/snowagent/staged/...

    WARNING:

snowagent Update/UpdateManager.cpp; SelfTest; Cannot start update self-test, exit code: 96

Has anybody else seen something like this?  Any ideas?

    Regards, David

    • Hi David, Were you able to solve this topic? We do have also some MAC's with an old agent. Possibly I can update them via the SMACC? Thanks!

Hi, The mac agent uses LaunchDaemons for scheduling. In addition to checking for files in /opt/snow for Inventory 5/6 agent or /usr/bin/xClient for older clients, you can run the following command from the terminal: sudo launchctl list | grep com.snowsoftware? You should then see two or three daemons running. /Robin

  5. Mac agent update to v6
Hello, Has anybody else tried pushing out the v6 Mac Agent?   We're in the process of doing that.  In the Inventory SMACC the computers show as successful: ...however not one of those machines reports in with the v6 agent.  They all still show as "Snow Agent - OS X 5.1.0" . Has anybody else managed to deploy v6 of the Mac Agent? Regards, David

    • I have since pushed out the newer 6.0.1 version of the Mac Agent to one of these machines that failed to update before. That seems to have worked perfectly.  So perhaps the slightly newer agent fixes the problem... Regards, David

  6. Mac Snow Agent

    Hi,

new versions of the Windows agent (5) can be pushed out by my service provider, but the MAC agent doesn't currently allow them to do this. Do Snow have plans to tweak this in future to be pushed out in a similar method as this saves time rather than getting local engineers involved in the process?

  7. Is there a latest Snow Agent Compatibility Matrix document?

Is there a latest Snow Agent Compatibility Matrix document?

Last version I can find on snow Globe is from Dec 2017.

We are testing the agent on the latest MacOS (10.14 Mojave) but I would like to know which OS's are supported.

It would be a good idea to make this a 'living' (linked) doc so we can do away with posting adhoc attachments.

    • Hi All,

Is there a new location for this matrix? All the links i've tried are dead now...

      Thanks
