Oracle.....
All,
I am currently packaging up Oracle 6i, 8i and Developer 2000 into .MSI's. I have so far managed to package up 6i and Dev2k and am in the process of packaging up 8i, which with any luck should be done by the end of the day.
Now my question to you all is:
HKLM\Software\Oracle\ALL_HOMES has 2 keys under it, HOME_COUNTER and LAST_HOME. If HOME_COUNTER was set to a value of 1 and LAST_HOME was set to a value of 0 this would signify that I only had 1 version of Oracle installed on my machine. If however HOME_COUNTER was set to 4 and LAST_HOME was set to 3 this would show that I had 4 versions of Oracle installed onto my machine.
Now here is where the problem is, if I installed Developer 2000 1st, as this is required to be the default home, and then wanted to install Oracle 8i using an .MSI I packaged this would only work if the HOME_COUNTER was set to 2 and the LAST_HOME was set to 1, in the Oracle 8i package. The problem, however, is I packaged this version up as the 3rd installation on my test machine, in the .MSI package HOME_COUNTER is set to 3 and LAST_HOME is set to 2.
Now putting this installation onto the machine wouldn’t work because the version numbers would be different, is there any way for me to either auto detect what is already in the registry, and set the HOME_COUNTER and LAST_HOME to the correct values based on what is already there, or prompt up with a box asking what home you would like to make this installation?
Any solution I require would have to be done during installation as the software is distributed using ZENworks and I don’t want any user interaction outside of them double click on the installation and running it!
Hope this all makes sense!!

Pauk
Just a thought, if this sounds feasible, we can go ahead.
