CChong2 (Flexera) asked a question.

Exclusion list and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*
The various default exclusion files that ship with installshield have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\* excluded. Why is this? Is this information not important or is it supposed to be stored somewhere else?

I also note that when converting from another legacy package, such as Zenworks, the zenworks repackager places all the Classes information in HKLM\Software\Classes. By using the above exclusion file this information is then excluded and the package fails.

Any / all ideas welcome: confused:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\classes is basically a subset of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Information created under the first key should also appear under the second. HKLM\Software\classes stores all users data where HCKU\software\classes stores per user data and HKCR stores all of this data in one place.

Could you provide more detail as to the problems you are encountering?

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Hi!

I have not encountered problems yet except converting nal objects. I am building my exclusions list and questioning things.

The problem with the nal objects is that when they were built using Novel's "snapshot" they captured the information under hklm\software\classes. This is excluded by the default exclusion file in the conversion process.

Thinking about it, I don't know if that caused problems or not because I removed the hklm\software\classes key from the exclusion list when I saw what it was doing.
