MSI does not Configure user-part of installation
Hello,

For some of you this might be a simple question, but I just can't find the answer. This is what's wrong.

I install a MSI (with the administrator account)

After that I log on as a "simple" user.

Usualy when you click on a random .exe file belonging to the specific program the installer window appears displaying that it is installing the (last part of the) program.

I now have a package with multiple .exe files. The problem is that the msi-installation does not display the install-window with every .exe file. Just some of them.

Why doesn't that window appear on any .exe file that I start. Is this a specific setting or is there someting else wrong in my msi-package.

Are all the exe files installed in seperate features, set as a keyfiles with advertised shortcuts ?

I've been pretty busy the last few days.

I hope I get some this today to check it out ;)

All the files are in the same feature, what else can be wrong ?

What does the software do when it's installing the last part of the program ?

Ideally you should have each exe file in its own feature and then an advertised shortcut to each exe file. Difficult to explain without knowing what else the software is doing.

By installing the last part, i mean the standard action that installer does. Like this:

    You install the program

    Logon as a different user

When a user then starts the program the Windows Installer window appears saying that it is installing the software.

What it exactly does at that time i don't know, but i think it is just configuring user-settings.

But why on not al the exe's

So i should set an advertised shortcut to the specific exe file ?

Yes you should have each exe file in its own component and each exe file should be advertised with a shortcut (if you want users to trigger the install).

    Done ;)

And it's working just fine :D
