Some assets in our system were detected or created with "unknown" asset type. Is it posible to change the asset typ manually e.g. to Laptop? In the current documentation i have not found any information for handling this asset typ.
Yes that is possible. Spider provides a "Asset Type Change" wizard to change the type of an asset.
The wizard can be opened by clicking the "Change type" function within the edit page of an asset.
If this function is not visible please add the permission via role administration.
Know we have a further question. The AssetNo is given by the System but can be changed in the web GUI. Does it make sence? Shouldn't the AssetNo be unique? With our current case we changed an unknown asset to asset typ "Desktop", but the AssetNo starts still with the "UK"-string. Desktops normaly starts with "DP". Should/can we Change this manually? Thanks
The AssetNo can be modified by default. It depends on customer's requirements. Both is possible: The filed is read only or can be modified. Sure the AssetNo should be unique to identify each asset. Also the rules for the auto identifer per asset type can be changed. Some customers do not distinct between different types, e.g. all assets start with A... In case of a type change, the system keeps the old AssetNo.
