Hello! I noticed something strange in some MAC devices regarding snow agent. So the issue is that agent is scanning machine daily, but for some reason it`s failing to send the snowpack.

But when it comes to sending the .snowpack - it fails. Just writes HTTPTransportException: Timeout was reached.

But the strange thing is that there are some MAC devices (from other companies) which send daily and works fine. Inventory is opening from web and is accessible.

Is there something that could block sending from MAC itself?

P.S TLS 1.0,1.1,1.2 is activated, SSL is renewed. Problem only on couple of MACs. Win,LNX,UNX etc are ok.

Best regards,

Vladimirs

  • Can you access the inventory server or gateway web page from the affected devices?

That would be your first troubleshooting step: browse manually to the address specified in the config file

    • Hi!

Yes, we can access Inventory Server from web with no problems and no pop-ups.

  • We are having this issue on Windows 10 systems too for some time already and opened a case for this (04538994) but since it's not easy reproducible it's still not solved. It works out that sometimes the agent creates a .snowpack which can not be send to the gateway and newly generated .snowpacks which are Ok will not be send until the 'corrupt/incorrect' one is deleted first. So the workaround we currently have in place is one hour before the scheduled scan a hanging .snowpack(s) of the day before is/are deleted first. We are now at the level of Wireshark troubleshooting to find the issue but again it's a tough issue....

  • We are seeing something similar on our Mac estate. I can see a successful heartbeat (from the AgentManifestView2) yet receive no inventory. This doesn't happen for all our Macs but a significant number (10%-ish). Would be good to get a definitive fix for this.

    • Yes, same situation. Im unable to inventory some of the MACs because I only get heartbeat from them. Dont really know the issue here and what could block actual send of snowpack.

And those MACs dont have any company configuration on it. They are basically fresh from shop.

      • Hi! So editing snowserver.config file and adding alternative DNS module is working. So the idea is that inventory has base address which is HTTPS and :443 port. You can add module and provide alternative DNS address on HTTP protocol. We managed to test this solution and it works, when we specify alternative dns address in MAC config file, but the problem is that we cant use HTTP in our prod system because our company policy is demanding secure solution and only using HTTPS connection.

So basicaly we are still looking for solution to this.

But for other if they are ok to use alternative DNS - this could work.

      • Unfortunately we can not use HTTP either since our MacBook's are not connected to the LAN but connecting over the internet in a Snow Gateway server which obviously is configured HTTPS. So we are still looking for a solution too and we are now also noticing more and more MacBook's having a heartbeat but no recent inventory data like you guys have....

      • Thank you for the feedback!

It`s really good that Im not the only one whos having this issue. Would be great to find solution to this. Im also reading some articles and trying to do test something + I have open case regarding this.

As soon as I will have something working - I`ll post it here. Also would appreciate if others would do the same :)

  • Hello everyone!

So it looks like the issue was with the agent.

At the moment I dont know the real fix (because we are still in process) but Snow created agent 6.7.0 version for me and during the agent installation on MAC machine it was showing that its 6.8.3 version.

To me it looks like this agent which was created is some kind of hybrid agent which contains files from multiple agent versions.

But yes, so its working and sending data from MAC 10.15+ OS version on auto mode. (inventory is on HTTPS).

We also was working with one MAC which was 10.13 but no success there. The only option which was working on MAC 10.13 OS version is to send data to Inventory using HTTP connection. HTTPS was not working.
