What affects the performance of the Snow License Manager web interface?
Hello all,
We have built our Snow servers to above the recommended specs for a 1000-5000 device estate for the license manager. inventory server and the Snow DB however when we use the License manager web interface it feels really under performant i.e. using the "Search for Computers" part there is a significant delay whilst it displays or sorts what we want to show.
For reference, we are sub 2.5K items inventoried, all servers are virtual sat in the same VMware stack with 10Gb fibre connectivity in/outbound.
Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated
I would almost certainly be looking at the database server to see if there is anything underperforming or causing a slowdown. Given the small size of your estate it shouldn't be particularly sluggish. The 'Search for Computers' screen attempts to return the first page of results by default and you can then search for something specific. There shouldn't be a particularly large payload being returned for the web server to be causing the slowdown. I have also encountered the website being sluggish, particularly when the compliance calculation kicks in, that might be causing it.
Out of interest what version are you running of SLM and Inventory? We are on the latest general releases of both and for weeks now the SQL Server process has been consuming very large amounts of CPU on the database server. I've raised a support ticked with Snow, however nothing has really helped so far. This has made our SLM slower to respond. We have our environment split across 3 different hosts (Web, database, gateway).
This sounds like the performance issue that people are facing with the introduction of v6.7 of Snow inventory. High CPU load after a move to v6.7 is mentioned here and here. As far as I can tell Snow are working on a fix.
The slowness for say search for a computer has been one ongoing topic for a few years.
Snow removed the List All way of searching that only initially loaded 20 records so was very quick to load.
The Search for... way loads EVERY record in one go and we've been asking for this to be cut down for quite a while to no avail to help the load times of results to allow you then to actually enter the search criteria you want to search for.
