Inconsistency of organizational structure
Good Morning.
I'm having a problem with the organizational structure.
We have about 6000 computers that would invent a specific key to generate the organization. In the inventory the information is displayed correctly, however, in SLM there is an inconsistency in which it does not correctly load the key value, we have also noticed that there are days it does it correctly and days it puts some computers in ROOT .
Can anyone explain to me the best practices for setting up the organizational structure?
Another question, the same structure can and or should be used for (users and computers) or do you need to build a structure for each type?
Hi Ricardo,
You can test the automatic assignment of computers to their organization nodes when you want by running this stored procedure:
This Organization structure depends on the size/scope of the business you are working with. Ideally, it represents Sites because some licenses have a metric "Site". Because some licenses will also have regional restrictions, you may want to have a level for "Country". Then you can break each site down into departments and even roles. So you could have ROOT>Country>Site>Department>Role
One method to sort everything into their Organization nodes is to use Environment Variables but that needs to be integrated into some sort of automated system to set those variables for you. Another option is to use IP ranges if your departments are nicely segmented.
The same structure can be used for both Computers and Users (and Licenses and Agreements and Objects too)
