You'll need to look VERY hard in your Inventory server log file to find any mention of it starting discovery as it only logs it really on the windows service startup and you'll then not see it again with default settings for another 7 days.
Easier way is just check in the inventory SMACC in the Discovery menu and select AD/SIM as your view - if you have data displayed in there it's working.
And as i've only ever seen is the line entries like these and then it listing which AD it's about to do the LDAP lookup on.

I would add if you have gateway servers you'll need to look on those server at there log files as you'll not see information on the master server as it's not actually doing any LDAP lookups unless you also enabled it on there too.

I still know that there was a log where you could see how many users or devices were read out .. that is probably no longer in the log file .
