Configuration of Parameters for Workflow

New Systems Admin Questions that I'm struggling with.

I am having some problems with Parameters and parsing them to Activities. (and I'm relatively new - so it's likely just me, but I can't find the info in the help document)

1. I created a Web-Service that returns a list of a users' direct reports in Active Directory, This works amazingly to populate a drop down list, and I can use the values it pulls in to populate other parameters in the workflow.

But when those parameters are used to call a script in an activity - It seems one of the values (despite the Parameter logs saying otherwise) doesn't get passed. - In my script during troubleshooting I have output the values to a text file and the key required parameter doesn't have a value.

2. When setting a Parameter to Autocomplete - it never seems like it doesn't have a value to look up.

(For future search [and people stuck where I am] - I fixed this - When configuring the Webservice - the value of the parameter should be "{0}" without the quotation marks.)

  • Hello Anthony, One thing that I struggeled with is the following: You can't add parameters to an existing activity script! Ok, technically you can add parameters to an existing activity script, but these parameters will never be passed to the script afterwards. To Do this, you would have to modify some information in the database. I have done this once and Snow confirmed this is the only way to handle this. So what I usually do as soon as I want to change parameters in an activity script, is to delete the activity and re-create it with the new script and parameters. Maybe this is similar in your situation. Regards, Axel

      1. Whatever is returned in the parameter is it a simple string or is it an object, if the return value is an object you would have to define what properties you would like to display and which value you would like to be the default value that would be used (After a recent update you're able to reference both values). 2. To clarify, Axel means if you tamper with the activity script file on the server and decide to add/edit/delete parameters created in the script which was added during the import of the script. These parameters won't update automatically. As Axel say you either have to change them in the database or upload a new version or replace the previous activity (Be aware that all connections to the Activity have to be un-linked first of all in order to remove the old version and all data in the activity will be lost and has to be re-configured)   A good thing to know about is if you think the script will require changes in the parameters you could add an empty script file and add parameters afterward by adding parameters with the Add Parameter button in the activity section. I think this has been described in a previous post Example of an empty script file Param( )‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍ ‍

    • I don't think this is the case, but I'll recreate the activity in-case it is (I think I've only changed properties of the parameter - but not the required parameters) Thank you for the feedback
